The first trip

DSCF8548

Today was the complete opposite of yesterday. If on Saturday I completed the trike with oppressive thoughts of this nature – but who needs it all? And where I this trike then den? etc. But today, after I successfully tested the device and plenty of rolling, I had a positive attitude and a clear plan for what to do next. First you need to finish with the cab, install a speedometer, a tachometer. You need a rear-view mirror and check the brakes, too, that they at the end of the tests began to creak. The second is to plan a trip to the beach, sagitate your comrades and try to properly disperse it along the sand and also to pass the route I have planned, which for the time being remains a secret. The third is to start gathering information, materials and parts for building a tricycle suitable for public roads, of course with a conventional motor, preferably a car and a drive for the rear wheels. The picture of such a device is attached below.

In general, I am very happy with today. I thank God for the good weather and the absence of obstacles. Thanks to my brother Vyacheslav, for arriving, photos vbideo. Thanks to Ernest, who accompanied me on a motorcycle and helped me measure the speed on a straight line, which by the way was able to develop on a 200 meter straight 67 km per hour. I think that at a longer distance the device will give a larger figure. The amortization worked very well. The steering is tolerable but it could be better. The device is stable in the speed dial, it keeps the direction well. I’m very pleased! I hope there are still a lot of joyful minutes in the work on debugging and traveling on this glorious device that completely came out of my imagination…

19.08.2018 test drive

IMG_20180819_122651

Today I finally got my trike to the beach and tested it on the sand. To admit, was a bit confused by the results. Sand is not an asphalt. The car is dying and hardly overclocking. I was so worried about the brakes, but it turned out to be on the beach, they do not need at all. You just let the gas and the car stops very quickly. It was possible to ride a little over forty kilometers per hour. 42 – 45 and that’s if you press a full gas. On the asphalt, the device accelerated to 60 very quickly and continued to dial, and there is a completely different matter. Depreciation is normal. Although the suspension on the semi axes at the working out of shock absorbers produces a scatter of wheels, they go as if up and to the side which also brake the device as it seemed to me. But overall I liked everything and I think if I change the front wheel for more and change the motor for more powerful than this kid, what costs me then you can safely go along the coast though around the whole sea. For a second I felt like Malcolm Campbell rushing along the beach on her blue bird. But my bird was red and the speed was several times less, but I think I managed to make the scenery so that I felt the same as my dear Malkom and Donald Campbell, Henry Seagrave, John Parry-Thomas and others. And one more moment – after an hour of skating, the propeller was simply ruined by sand and water. I really spoiled the propeller. The conclusion should be made on the propeller protective plates or tape in several layers to roll.

In general, I’m pleased with the trip. Many thanks to Igor who provided his car for transportation of the trike and assistance in testing! And also thanks to the great Karlis, for the shooting and for being not afraid of an early rise and joined the trip!

Everything is ready for engine installation

DSCF8502

Shock absorbers installed. The brakes are made and the hood I lengthened screwed and painted. Next thing to do – install the engine. Make the handle of the gas, then a fence for the screw and I think we can leave the garage. The only thing that does not give me a little sleep is the design of the front. When I took off the hood to fix the front fork, I noticed how well the machine looks without a bulky cowl in front. It is short and cute, a bit like the kind of genus. The only thing that bothers me is the small and delicate front wheel. If you leave the device without the fairing, then the wheel should be thicker, then the appearance will win more powerful, and if you leave a thin wheel, visually the superiority of the large cabin will be purely composite. Now I’m thinking about what to do. I can probably buy a tire more and solve this question in the same way, but the budget does not allow .. There is another option to cut holes in the hood on the sides so making it a little easier and perhaps more interesting, but it can turn out unsuccessfully, the device can look too theatrical .. I think I’ll leave it this way. you need to roll it out onto the street. We need to move away from it and then everything will become clear. I work in a dark hangar, hiding my device from all eyes, and I did not really see it from a distance, except in my imagination. Yes, I wanted to say a big thank you to Roland, my employer. he allows me to use the tool and design in his workshop. If it were not for his kind heart, so all would remain on paper ..

There is such a tricycle, the Morgan machine, British. I really like their concept and the fact that they do not change their pre-war design of this model. So I thought that my tricycle if I made a design like my aeromobile but with the engine built into the back of the cab and with a chain drive to the wheel building, then visually it would look not nearly worse than Morgan and where it’s even more interesting. The design of the reverse triangle is a single trike with a rudder like a car. I wonder if it will have enough stability on the road?

Rebuild

DSCF8496

Since my last post, happened a lot. I made a gas knob and put the front panel in the cockpit. I also managed to get the rear shock absorbers and the front fork with the brake. I had to rework everything. I cut off the front forks and put another one in its place. The hood had to be removed and since the wheel and fork now take up more space, the nose had to be extended by 10 cm, so the front part took a more harmonious look. Now the truth is to change the steering, the old version does not fit. Yes, and I finally got the axles for the rear wheels. Now we need to wait for free time to proceed to further assembly. Due to the fact that there is very little time for the project and I would like to finish it before the beginning of summer, I’m in a hurry and I’m doing some very primitive things. Perhaps because of this period, the dash of the device will not be easy, but at the moment my goal is to put everything together so that you can start installing the engine!

Building continues

20180422_115109

Over the weekend, I managed quite a lot. I bought a sheet of aluminum and made a hood for the front of the trike. Put the hinges so the hood could be easily opened, fork and the front wheel could be reached if necessary. As fasteners of the bottom of the hood used belts like old cars. Visually, I like this decision most of all, but the straps turned out to be flimsy and torn as soon as I could just pull them. In general, I had to put on bolts. It does not look good, but it keeps well. On top of that, I painted the hood with black paint. The paint was only matte and does not look very good with a glossy casing, but in general it is satisfactory, then I can varnish it and it will be ok.

One of my good friends Irena decided to help me and brought a whole package of all sorts of interesting things. Various rivets, belts, handbags, decorative carnations and scraps of different fabrics. Among other things, there was also a good piece of black dermantine to which I covered the hastily made of plywood and foam rubber seat. It turned out very well. However, in the cockpit it became a little cramped and there was nowhere to pull the legs. But even the pedals need to be put somewhere. At the moment this is my main problem and next week I hope to solve it.

Unfortunately, the rear axles and braces for the brakes are still unprepared, and it makes me angry and brakes the whole project. If I welded the axles, I could put the wheels and brakes. After that, you can mount the motor and take over the fence and there is already the final straight and sun-drenched beach on which I will rush on my hot rod-aerotrayke, I do not even know what else it can be called. While I’m happy with everything in the design. Everything within my picture, but still a lot of work if only it was unnecessary to be distracted by the earnings, I would have built a whole fleet of cars that could be safely taken and removed in the sequel of the Mad Max …
